The 土地-身体 Tu Di - Shen Ti / Our Land, Our Body exhibition brings 65 master works from the Warburton Acrylic Collection to seven major museums in China. With over two years in planning, it is the largest exhibition of indigenous art ever to come to China and forms one of the key events for the Year of Australian Culture in China, Imagine Australia in 2011.

Following a highly successful debut at the prestigious Shanghai Art Museum, where some 85,000 visitors viewed the Exhibition, the Tu Di Shen Ti / Our Land - Our Body exhibition travelled to Nanjing City Museum, the Today Art Museum in Beijing, and Zhejiang Museum-West Lake Gallery in Hangzhou, which officially celebrated sister state relations between the States of Zhejiang and Western Australia.

Now the tour moves on to Xi’An Art Museum, Dongguan Guancheng Art Museum and Wuhan Art Museum. Xi’An Art Museum are the institutional partners with Warburton Arts Project for the second part of the tour and the installation in this major museum promises to be very memorable.

Tu Di Shen Ti is presented in the context of an indigenous cultural world. Art work is mounted in an installation that acknowledges Western Desert people and their world: genealogies, narrative text, photographs taken by indigenous school children, a 20 channel digital immersive environmental sound and data projected installation are important parts of the exhibition space.

Meaningful translation in wall texts, captions and documentation has been a priority to reach Chinese audiences. A high quality comprehensive bilingual catalogue has also been produced, along with guide notes and a substantial education kit for Chinese schoolchildren. With the finest artworks from the Warburton Collection in a powerful installation format, delivered with a high level of translation of English into Chinese, this exhibition will create a significant cultural occasion for Chinese and international visitors.

The exhibition is produced by the Warburton Arts Project with major touring partners Rio Tinto and is a Warburton Ranges Community initiative.
